The electricity shortfall of the Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO) has come down to only 83 megawatts providing much relief to this exports oriented cottage and small industries hub of the country, GEPCO spokesman told Business Recorder on Tuesday.

He said that GEPCO is being supplied 1202 megawatt electricity from the national grid station against the demand of 1285 megawatt leaving a shortfall of 83 MW that is being met with load-shedding of 49 minutes on average at the urban feeders, 42 minutes at the adjoining localities 2 hours and 50 minutes load-shedding at rural feeders, 3 hours and 25 minutes at agricultural tube-wells and mere 10 minutes at the mix industrial feeders during 24 hours.

He said that GEPCO supplies electricity to nearly 3 million domestic, industrial, agricultural, and commercial connections in the golden triangle of Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowl, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin and Hafizabad districts, in the central Punjab that hosts 60 percent SMEs of the country.
